ERNESTOSOLARI

ART-GALLERY

In search of the Aleph

Painting, sculpture, modelling, designing and carving are languages that enable Solari to make objects or products not for their own sake, but fragments or expressions of a unique discourse, a dialogue of many voices that live or give life or new life to a space.

The narration between expressive elements and influencing aspects belonging to the physical space where the narration is taking place determines the materialisation of the Aleph, the union of opposites or complementary elements.

So his artistic purpose is to reach or create the complementarities that can only occur through a harmony of diverse, opposing or influenced elements.

In this way every exhibition becomes an interwoven field of threads, drapes, empty and full spaces that harmonically lead to a result that is not objective but mental, philosophical, mystical etc., an installation or a collection of installations linked by a dialogue by a thought that is creative and sometimes decided, because the Aleph is light.

And light, as the art of the past has taught us, gives birth to colour, an element Solari has not wished to exclude from his languages and his dialogues, and that remains pictorially present. Painting has not been abandoned, it is now used and transformed into plastic material and shapes.

Solari is an anomalous artist, swimming against the tide – he does not seek inspiration communicated by the real to the I but seeks, in the process and the path, those emotions and creative charges that can push him towards lights and flashes of truth, hidden in the themes of his research, dialogue and communication but also in the influences that change, sometimes unwittingly, our life.

Critical Writings

...Light, in fact, plays a determining role in the paintings, in that it softens the forms, accentuating their intensity and the charge of surreal suggestion. But beneath the vibrant and sometimes aggressive aspect of the images lies a melancholic understanding that cloaks the figures in mysteries and symbols. Rosanna Ricci (art critic of the Resto del Carlino)

...Ernesto Solari takes a backwards look at his stylistic journey, from the current reinterpretations of the proto-twentieth century avant garde movements to the initial popularesque descriptiveness, creating an effective harmony between processes of the memory and form.Luciano Caramel(1982: presentation at the exhibition held by the Mus. Civ. in Como)

......from chromatic impressionism of humble materials like paper and rags, obtaining a material, three-dimensional effect of surfaces in the drapery, the play of full and empty spaces of the folds and the feathered wing of the Durerian Melencolìa, a sort of arcane, philosophical materialisation. Antonio Gabarrini (il Messaggero)

...The passage from lively movement to tranquillity shakes the soul of the viewer and forces him or her to think. The vison as a whole becomes a symbol of humankind’s instability, a troubled experience. And the calm slackening of the image communicates hints and messages. Luigi Cavadini (presentation of the “Dimensione Uomo attualità del Rinascimento"exhibition - Gall.Temarte-Como-1983)

......painting, soft, rich, varied, they were a search for images, they were his “flying” that he loved so much, the feathered wing of the Durerian “Melencolia”, what we all, with an excess of superficiality, continue to call “melancholy”. I’d go so far as to say that in some paintings, the ones inspired by the famous print, and in “Gesù tra i dottori” and its variations we find the best of his expressive spontaneity. Giorgio Mascherpa (1985: presentation Milan exhibition catalogue:Gall. Nuova Sfera)

...Solari imposed his visual interpretation on a resemblance of the process, proceeding from the recognisable (a portrait, for example) towards an arrangement that inspires an investigation that is both technical-linguistic and symbolic, leading to an exposure of its mechanism, which does not deny the continued existence of the "sensibil forma", but only inasmuch as reverberation or dream. Roberto Sanesi (critic, writer and artist at the Accademia di Brera: presentation of the exhibition Infinito Leopardi:1999)

...One of the few able to do so, Solari is a “painter who thinks”, one who knowingly presents the work in terms of an intellectual journey made up of research, reflection, questions and answers, using provocation to involve the spectator. Vincenzo Guarracino 2004

...His latest productions have seen Solari quit the limited dimension to expand into airy, more generous spaces where extensive floating canvases also become large totems, menhirs or imposing dolmen containing symbolic material elements that seek to penetrate the flowing harmonies of the drapery and infused them with their colour and the magic of the symbol. The harmonic flow of these drapes also become musicality. The rhythm seems to guide the artist’s gestures as they are possessed by the Paganinian spirit. Roberto Borghi (2014)
